UTILITY MODEL PATENTS

A Utility Model Patent protects any new form, configuration or arrangement of elements, of any device, tool, instrument, mechanism or other object or any part thereof, that permits a better or different operation, use or manufacture of the object that incorporates it, or that provides it, with any additional utility, advantage or technical effect that it did not have before.

This type of patent is granted for 10 years non-renewable, since once this time has elapsed, it belong to public domain.

The registration is made before the industrial property office of each country and takes between 18 to 24 months approximately to complete.
